Can diesel oil lock a gas engine?

I went to oil express shop and asked if I needed oil, they checked and told me it was full. they told me pull it around in the bay and we will put something a little thicker to quiet your engine. They put 15-40 Diesel and car engine locked 15 minutes later. 2003 Toyota Camry

yes, it was already making noise. They emptied 2 quarts from my car and replaced with 2 quarts of diesel 15-40.
