Power loss

Asked by Samir2018 Nov 07, 2018 at 10:17 AM about the 1997 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 230 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving on the motorway at
70mph and suddenly the speed
plummeted down to 20.  I kept
pressing the gas but no response .  I
stopped and switched the engine off
then restarted and was fine.  Noticed
after that it happened when there up
hill even the slightest.  Now the car
does not go at all if it's called.

Any trouble codes? With so little info to go on, only suggestions I can make is you may have a worn clutch pack, transmission, weak fuel pump, or went into limp mode for any number of reasons. Try scanning codes as a start.

Thanks for replying. There are two lights on. One BAS ASR and another I think it is indicating low level engine coolant. The mileage is low for the car age only 77k miles. If the car cold in the morning there will be no power at all no matter how much I press on the gas. It is dangerous when pulling out at junctions. Another symptom is that the rpm goes so high before the automatic gear change or I left my foot of the gas.
