when i turn off the car it will not atart for a couple of hours or the next day

My '91 Ford Festiva does the exact same thing. I'v taken it to the dealer, they could not find the problem. I'v also asked several other knowlegeable mechanics with no answer. Needless to say, I'm also waiting for someone to answer your question. Maybe it will also solve my problem. Let's hope. -dragcar-

If the engine check light came on, then there is a fault code stored in the engine computer. Before asking anybody what could be wrong, have the code checked first. That will tell you what's wrong with the car or at the least point you in the right direction. Possible problem: Crank Angle sensor failing. ( sensor gets hot and don't send a signal to the engine computer, when you switch the car off it won't restart until the sensor cools down) It's only a matter of time before it fails completely and leave you stranded). Incidentally, that sensor won't trigger the engine check light, but still get the code checked to rule out any other possibilities.
