Burning Oil 2004, C240 50k mileage

Asked by Cfree333 Dec 27, 2018 at 04:55 PM about the 2004 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 240 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Seems to be burning oil about a quart every 3k.   It doesn't leak at least on
driveway.   When I wipe the tail pipes I get black and kind of wet/water oil.
Seems like it should be dry grey.   Only had the car 6 months and it sat many
years.  Had the A service completed when I bought it and they only replaced
serpentine belt and noted no other problems.  My first MB and bought it for
reliability.  What could be the issue?

Agree, nothing to worry about. Tail pipes will not be grey.

Not ideal but not that bad. If you make a lot of short trips the tail pipe will not get hot enough to dry out.

Thanks thats probably it. Work from home and only drive a mile or two most days. I'll check it on a long trip.
