Mercedes CLK350 2006 occasionally starts running rough, has burning smell...

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 CLK350 2 door convertible and this problem started last summer where I'll
be driving then stop at a red light and start and you can hear the motor revving and the
rpms will go up to like 5 but the car won't get over about 40 mph and it rides really
rough. So I have to pull over, stop the car, turn it off and turn it on again and it's fine. It's
an intermittent problem but the time between when it happens has decreased so I think
maybe a sensor is going bad but I'm trying to figure out what it is so I can tell the
mechanic. Any ideas?

Have your mechanic put his code reader on it and it have some saved codes due to the disturbance in the idle and misfire. If I had to guess it could be anything from a coilpack going bad to a the cam sensors. In other words try to get the codes and go from there.

ld also try cleaning the MAF ( mass air flow ) sensor and see if theres any change.

I remember seeing something about the cam sensors and wiring connectors have an issue with the seals leaking oil up into the cam sensor causing it to fail.
