Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1999 Mercedes CLK320 convertible: The driver's door is hard to close and the locking
system is messed up.  When I lock the car from the outside and then unlock it, there
is a beep. This beep keeps going for about 15-20 minutes.  I have been looking on the
net for repair information, and the closest I can get is the vacuum door locking
system. But each year there is something slightly different in them.  Can you tell me
what I need?  (I am a elderly lady and can't do the work myself, but hopefully can get
someone to do it.)

There is possibly a sensor switch in the door post that activates when the door is open or closed and it may be coming lose and causing the door not to freely close. Have someone check for that. It should be a push type button about 1/8 inch in diameter held by a small nut. That may be causing the problem or the door is out of adjustment. Not a strong possibility but if the car has been damaged and the door was not set properly or tightened correctly is may be lose and out of adjustment. Go to a body repair shop if you want and ask them to check the door closing and opening tolerances.
