Could the fuel filter on my 2000 Chevy lumina be the problem?

I have a 2000 Chevy lumina and I was driving yesterday with it
extremely low on gas. I got about 2 blocks and it had died.
Assuming that I had ran out of gas I went and got some . After
putting in more then a gallon it wouldn't start and has not started
since. So could sediment be blocking the fuel filter causing it to not
start?
