More than likely it is the alternator not charging. You ben running on just battery voltage until the battery got run down. Should be able to put a charger on the battery if it is new, and it should recover.

I agree, it sound like your alternator is bad. Have it checked first before you replace it.

The computer must merge with the battery to read what it is doing. So by shutting it down and then restarting the vehicle, it sound like the computer is trying to read and program into itself what the battery is doing. our sync the battery to the computer. The computer is not telling you the charging system is bad, or the battery is bad, but it is having problems reading the battery. We are coming more and more reliant on computers to tell us or give information that the cars never gave out before. Sometimes too much information can cause unwanted aggravation. Yes there are those that will say, it is better and necessary. The majority of auto drivers, at least in the States, don't want to know, don't care, or don't understand. As the computer dependability grows, the larger the numbers rise of those not knowing what it is telling us. "Hello Hall!"
