Question type: General

Inoticed this after the first time i ran out of fuel. I Added fuel and it started up.
Next day it wouldnt start, I let it sit and next day it started up ,ran for 15 mins then shut down.
This went on for two or three days, some times it will not start and after a day or half a day it will
start up ,run for a while then shut down and wont start back when i try to restart.
Now it just turn over but do not start, I don't want to run the battery down.
Anyone can help?, I did add fuel cleaner before it shut off, checked fuel pump fuse under rear seat and
its ok. dont know what else to do. car only has 99,000 mls and spark plugs and wires are new. could
this be the fuel pump acting up? any suggestion would be helpful.

Could be the fuel pump. Try turning the key to the run position without starting it, and listen for the whirring sound from the fuel pump.

Thanks! I Thought of that and was trying to listen, I don't think i heard the pump. I was trying to remember what it sound like. How long will the pump run while the key is just in the on position without starting? Is there any other part or sensor, relay that is also part of the fuel system that would stop it from starting.

most likely to be the fuel pump, I'm not sure but i believe this model Merc may have 2 pumps , a lift or priming pump and a 'running' pump. Also you may need to check for presence of power and earth at the pump with a testlamp. Try to do this with help as this should be done with the key in the 'crank' or 'start' position.
