W211 gearbox

Asked by GuruY7WPW Apr 03, 2018 at 07:00 PM about the 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 W211 gearbox is giving problems.  My mechanic
advises me to buy another gearbox. I have read somewhere
that the gearbox must match the engine  otherwise i will
get ratio problems. How do I ensure that I am buying the
right gearbox?

ler's start over..... what tests did the mechanic do that brought him to the replacement conclusion? The matching is in the type and specific model of MB tranny. A rebuilt is the only close to feasible solution
