Is it possible to bump and damage the oil sensor on a 1998 ML 320 during a routine oil change service?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took my 1998 ML 320 with 237,500 miles on it in for a routine oil change. The
oil light was not on prior to service and it had never been an issue before.
When I drove away the oil light came on so I returned. The tech ran
diagnostics, which he showed me, but could not get the light to go off.
Tech said either the float is stuck and driving may help dislodge or the sensor
is now bad, either way he said it was a coincidence. I read that the oil level
sensors rarely go bad in these older ML 320's. Is that true? Is it possible to
damage the sensor during service because of where it's located?

Get a second opinion- owning an old Merc means developing a close relationship with a really good mechanic who knows these cars-
