My Sl 500's battery has no charge, I jumped it and it would not start and only a clicking noise came from the engine

Clicking noise when I try to start my SL 500.  Battery seems totally dead. What might be
the problem?  Alternator?

You don't say how old the battery is. It may just be too old. You have a 99 so I am sure this is not the original battery. Did you replace it with the exact replacement? Make sure all cables are clean and tight. Long cable to reach from trunk to engine! Take battery to parts house and have them do a diagnostic test on it. Probably just a bad battery.
