Put a battery maintainer on the battery. Running the engine for 10 minutes each week does not supply the battery with enough charge. Do a Google search for "Deltran Battery Tender" and order one.

Thank you Carol...So many brands out there-how does one know which is a good one?

I have the Battery Mindr on my 1990 BMW 535i AND my 1999 Mercedes SL500...both work PERFECTLY...I hope this helps! On your 99 SL500...connect the battery mindr battery clips to the battery(which is on the right side of your trunk)...then attach the cord out your trunk and plug it into your electric wall socket(when removing- always remove the plug from the wall socket FIRST)

There is a cover pad on top of the battery in the trunk...you should see two round white release knobs(u can google it if you have trouble). Battery Mindr does come with instructions(if I can do it...anyone can)

when u have your trunk open....look near the corner and u will find a groove...which is where the cord exits so you can plug it into a wall.

Carol-do you leave the trunk door open during the charge in order to minimize smell/heat?

I don't(there is a little groove that your cord can fit through around the rim of the trunk)...and u can close your trunk)...I live in AZ and it can be 120 in summer here. Someone here was nice enough to help ME with this so I am happy to pass this info along to you...btw this is the BEST Mercedes SL ever made imo

Thank you, once again.I appreciate the info, and i'll be sure to help others with it,as well. I live in Co,and i think i'll leave the trunk door open, the temps won't affect anything by doing so(my opinion). Perry.

you do NOT have to keep your trunk open(in fact it will try to close automatically) On the LEFT side of the trunk(where the SL500 emblem is) you will see a groove where u can slide the cord to the outside of the trunk Let me show u a pic
