If key doesn't turn on how can the ignition switch be removed??

Remove the whole steering column. Where the black plug attaches to the ignition switch you'll see 3 little humps, hacksaw through these and pull the unit apart. Insert a flat blade screw driver into the newly visible slot and turn until the black plug can be pulled free. Oh, before you start you MUST disconnect the battery or the car will start when you turn the screw driver, not good....
