Yes, the air springs is the same thing as the rear air bag. $1,100 is very overpriced, when I replaced the rear air bags on my R350, I bought them online for $250 for the set and had a local repair shop install them. The shop should not charge you for more than a few hours of labor for the install, as that is what Mitchell and All data call for. The shop that did mine had both sides installed in under 2 hours. When the shop finished, the back of the car was sitting about 4" too high; to correct this, they just plugged in their scan tool and ran the suspension self test and it leveled out. There is no reason the entire job should cost more than $600. Also, you got taken when you had the pump installed; it's an easy install that you could do yourself in under an hour, and the pump can be bought online for only a few hundred $. Go find a new mechanic, you are getting ripped off!

I've had bad experience with my R class rear air suspension system, replace left side after few months right side became problem, so i decided to bought the ML Class spring assembly to replace the air bag system in my 2006 model R Class, remove the compressor fuse and it working perfectly. Now my entire headache are gone!
