starting problem

Asked by psycopainter Mar 27, 2011 at 02:52 PM about the 1988 Honda Accord LX Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 accord and I have to hold the gas pedal to the floor to start it.... When it starts, it runs bad for a few seconds and then clears up and runs ok. Now it's getting harder and harder to start.. any ideas? O2 sensor maybe?

Check the TPS, make sure all your vaccuum lines are connected, and in good shape, and just to be on the safe side, check the dipstick/bottom of the oil cap for what would look like coffee with creamer in it - which would be a sign that the head gasket is blown, or worse. Have you overheated it recently?
