Why will my car not stay started for more than 3 seconds?

Asked by achiebones May 03, 2012 at 02:37 PM about the 1985 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1985 toyota camry LE was starting to run rough and one night almost did not make it back to the house. The next day I replaced the fuel pump and the fuel filter but now the car will only stay started for about 3 second. I can wait for about an hour and it will start again for only 3 seconds. What gives, is there a fuse or censor i need to replace?

some japenese cars have to have the ecu reset when changing certain componants we found this out when we had to change a window winder motor in a nissan as they are identical parts but the ecu didnt recognise it as it was a new micro board on the system
