Car was running great, check engine light came on and car quit. any suggestions on what to look for?

I bought the car 2 months ago. it was running great, no problems. I was on my way to work, the check engine light came on and the car quit. When I tried to restart it, it sounded funny when it tried to turn over. any suggestions on what to look for?

Idid my research on the Csrgurus and toyota nation and came to the conclusion its the timing belt. going to put a new water pump on too. thats for the information, I love my toyota
