how do i reset timing?

the timing is off, what are the timing settings on a 1999 4x4 suv, 6 cylinder

All cars are in different places, but Auto zone has a web site that will tell you that info.

10 degres BTDC,or if you dont have a timeing light,let your mechanic set it.or it is controled by the computer.

The only timing that you would ever mess with on a vehicle that has an electronically controlled ignition system would be the mechanical timing of the camshaft(s) to the crankshaft. The fuel/spark timing is adjusted by the vehicles powertrain/engine controller and cannot be adjusted unless you have a computer and the ability to modify secure programming values set by the factory. If you are having engine driveability concerns then you most likely have a different concern all together then the timing.
