86 celica gts no spark no fuel
Asked by ilovemy86 Aug 22, 2014 at 12:11 PM about the 1986 Toyota Celica GT-S Hatchback
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Put in a new higher performance
clutch, plugs, cap, rotor, and wires.
Still have no spark or fuel from the
fuel pump. Also swapped the ignition
coil and ignitor and still nothing.
Someone said it might be my
distributor but the pick up coil tested
out good. Might still do a swap and
see what happens.

guessing is the wrong way to approach problems- ok, if you have a lot of money to waste- that has a carb? strange that the fuel pump is not working- that has nothing to do with the ignition system- are you SURE that the car isn't getting gas? are you SURE that you are not getting spark?
It's fuel injected and I tested the pump and the plugs. Nothing from either.
There are two wires that lead into the distributor. 1 for spark, and the other for the pump since the pump is electric and not mechanic. Others have had this problem but not all said the distributor was the problem.
weird that the pump gets power off the dist. WHY? I don't get it- you should get a wiring diagram- and question whoever is your wiring adviser-
any ideas??? my 88 celica doesn't get spark, engine turns over very strong but just wont start. changed the plugs and plug wires. Was told that I need to change the coil in the distributor.
