BMW X5 3.0 temp drops with heat on

Asked by boopunn Jan 27, 2019 at 10:15 PM about the 2001 BMW X5 3.0i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a new water pump, both temp sensors,Thermostat, heat pump assembly
and my X5 idles at operating temp with no heater on. When I turn the heat on
the temp drops below a  1/4 unless im driving down the road. I have verified it is
not just the gauge acting funny with a computer and watching the temp from the
ECM. It should stay at running temp. Thanks

The heater takes heat from the cooling system which is normal. If the temp drops too much you may have a faulty thermostat.
