Hello latoya-- Your 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier transmission fluid can be checked by using the dipstick you will see under the hood in the engine compartment. You add fluid directly through the dipstick tube. General Motors recommends using DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid. Good luck from Bovan.

i a 1999 there is no dip stick if you look from the passenger side through the wheel well you will see a plug on side of trans. remove the plug it fluid runs out it is full if it dont you need to add some. this needs to be done when running and at operating temp

but don't overfill it you'll blow a seal (not as fun as it sounds)

now i'm no an expert but i own a 2001 cavalier and it has no dipstick. you either need to raise your car up off the ground on a hoist or if a hoist isn't availiable put your car on jack stands enough to get under the car and try to make the car as level as possible, there is a plug on the side of the transmission, you need to loosen the unscrew the plug and take it out and if fluid doesn't come out you most likely need to add some, if fluid does come out there was too much fluid in it and you could have blown a seal, so ass fluid until it starts to drip out of the side of the tranny where you took the plug out, once fluid has stopped coming out you should be good to go you can now screw the plug back in and tighten, i'm not sure if it says in the manual how many ft/lbs. but not too tight the treads on the transmission are aluminum and could strip
