My 2002 VW Cabrio starts up, but won't stay running.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
We have done a tune up, replaced the distributor and the coil but nothing has worked. As a matter of fact it seemed to get worse after the coil was installed. We have tested everything electrical and everything is getting spark. It seems fuel related to me, but no one else seems to think so....any ideas would be appreciated.

yes, there IS a fuel pressure regulator, probably who's hose has cracked~....let me verify this hypothesis~

if this thing's diaphragm cannot open, there will be insufficient pressure~

did we get it BANG-ON? do I need to start looking towards your electrical schematic?....do you hear the fuel pump come on and start circulating fuel through the fuel rail (in the"on" position?)

I had my 1998 Cabrio doing the same last spring. As soon as it was warm, 5-10 minutes it would stop running and impossible to start again until it cooled off (2-4 hours). What needed to be changed, in my case, was the RPM speed sensor - not too expensive but somewhat of a challenge to replace. Total cost of the repair by a "friendly" expert was about $300 include parts and labor. Runs like a new one until the next thing comes up - 20 years is not an easy age to stay fit for a Cabrio.....
