Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Im looking at a 2002 Cabrio GLX with lost keys.  Can I swap out the Ignition
switch and then have dealer program keys after reviewing cars software to the
transponder in the key so it works with car?
Can Dealer tell by reading computer what the transponder in the key should be
coded to, to make all this work??

Best to talk to the Dealer first. The vehicle is 20 years old so that might be a problem. The seller should make the new keys before they sell it. Seems a little suspicious to me. Maybe they already know it will be costly to get new keys. Another option, for the seller, is a reputable locksmith. Also, does the seller have the clear title in their name to give you? Or do they have some story about that too? How can you test drive the vehicle without the keys? Tell them to get the keys and you'll be interested. Otherwise, keep shopping!! Hope that helps! Jim

If you can't test drive it walk away . I've seen other ads where the car needs a starter or battery but is fine otherwise , I would think it's just a ploy so that it can't be driven . Don't trust anyone .
