Idles rough, alternator vibrates, give it some gas and it stalls

Asked by Gusto232 Aug 01, 2016 at 01:16 PM about the 1993 Volkswagen Cabriolet Classic

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just changed battery and alternator on it because
of the same symptoms, however the car did run
prior to the new items. Idles fine but rough shaking
of alternator, (old alternator was grinding inside). As
soon as I give a little throttle, engine dies.

did you get a used or refurbished alternator? have you tried checking the mounting area's of the alternator? it sounds to me like its not secured properly.

Checked the battery. Autozone gave me an old one and it won't hold a charge. I'm swaping it out and hope that's it.

make sure you keep a charge on the car while switching the battery if done by yourself. The cars now a days will get a bit wierd if you disconect the battery straight up. A good way to maintain a charge is to use a battery recharger attached to the battery cables if you do it at home.
