Eurovan cranks but takes 5 or 6 tries before It will start- just replaced fuel pump

Asked by PondCreeker Apr 10, 2015 at 02:34 PM about the 2002 Volkswagen EuroVan 3 Dr MV Passenger Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Eurovan - Rialta camper. Started noticing couple months ago that it
wouldn't catch after two or three tries turning the key - the starters appears to be working
fine… I replaced the battery last summer. So I took it into the shop - they installed new
fuel pump. Now it takes five or six times to get it to catch. Once it starts running it runs
beautifully. Any ideas of this could be?

Did they replace the fuel filter? Did they test the fuel pressure regulator?

You need to make sure the dashboard warning lamps continue to be lit up as you move the key from the "on" to "crank" position. Sometimes the ignition switch gets a dead spot and doesn't send current to the ignition when you're cranking it over.( Ignition switch electric part, behind the key lock).

Fuel pump getting weak dirty or clogged fuel filter or injectors run some good gas treatment in full tanl run that and see what it does
