99 Chevy Malibu

Have a 99 Chevy Malibu the theft light come
on so I did the reset off turning the key for
10- 15 minutes that's didn't work so we
unhooked the battery that's worked the light
went off but the car still doors the same
thing it did when the light was on it starts
and cuts right back off what could it be ?
