It looks like (from what I have been able to find) that it's an in-line attachment. Here's a link to a site that sells block heaters for TDIs, I'm not sure whether it's the brand you bought however. http://www.frostheater.com/ If that's not the brand then the first place to go is to your manufacturer for instructions. Google the brand name and you should be able to track down contact information and then call for installation instructions. Here's a quote from a TDI forum than gives some clues for a zerostart block heater is that's the type you have "Put a hose pincher on the hose from the side of the block to the oil cooler. Slide the spring clamps back. Rotate the hoses so they break loose from the nipple, but don't remove them. Have your new hoses ready and attached to the heater. Have the heater mounted. Lube inside the end of the new hoses with silicone grease so they will slide into place easier. Screw clamps on the hose, but loose. Route the hoses so they are beside the old ones. Now, pull off the hose to the oil cooler. Quickly slide the new hose in place. Repeat with the hose to the side of the block. Tighten clamps. If you do your prep work beforehand, you will lose less than a quart of coolant. Remember, if you do the top hose first, coolant will run through the heater and out the bottom hose. Always do the bottom hose first. Coolant doesn't like to run uphill, make gravity work for you." And here's a link to a search of The TDI Club's forums for thread pertaining to block heaters (including the tread quoted above). Perhaps there more help there. http://forums.tdiclub.com/search.php?searchid=962190 Good luck
