recall completed but key wont turn

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just had the ignition recall completed on my 99 Malibu and drove away. Go back out to
the car and key wont turn. Old key doesn't work either. Dealer says it's not them. Any
ideas?

The dealer put a new ignition switch in? And now they say they are not responsible? That's pretty brazen, even for a dealer! They must be tired, tired, tired of putting ignition switches in their junk- get it fixed: either hold their feet to the fire, call the district rep for chevy, or take it to a real, responsible mechanic- then sell it- that car is dangerous and the dealer doesn't seem to care if you live or die-
Have you tried turning the steering wheel to unlock the safety catch? Put the key in, turn it as far as you can, then jerk the wheel left and right or right and left. If that does not fix it, call the Chevy district Rep and tell them to come get it and fix it. Also have them give you a rental while they have the car in for repairs.
Yes, tried that. Ended up having it fixed. Cost me $300 for a free recall.
Melissa, got a notification of you answering the posts, but no answer is showing here. Try again. Why did it cost you $300 for the recall? There is another question about the ignition switch being replaced and now their key is not working. Any information you can give will be helpful. Did you contact the GM Rep? Not the one at the dealer, but corporate rep? What did they say?
