2002 VW Golf

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I got a 2002 VW Golf last week and am having intermittent problems with the alarm system.
When I press the open button on the key, sometimes nothing happens and the alarm goes off. I have tried everything and it seems very difficult to get the alarm to stop, sometimes going for over 40mins. It continues even whilst driving the car. I cannot turn the alarm off, but it normally stops itself after a period of time and when it does, the remote control key will not lock the car. I have tried the description in the manual for syncing the key. I have also tried other solutions on the forum, ie: Turning the ignition on and pressing the unlock/lock buttons on the door. I have ordered a new battery for the fob which should arrive today and will replace it later, but any help at al would be much appreciated.

Thank you

I was going to suggest a new FOB battery, but looks like you have one ordered. Best of luck and let us know if this fixes it.

I tried changing the fob battery and now the fob does not work at all so the car is left unlocked. I have tried the reprograming process of putting the key in the ignition, locking and unlocking the car using the buttons on the door, pressing in the lock button on the key fob etc but still nothings working. Looks like il need to take it to a gararge
