VW 2006 Golf GL 2.0 Starter Replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I need to replace the starter on my 06 Golf GL 2.0L - was going to first try
pulling one off a wrecked car at one of the local yards, wasn't sure what other
years/models would have a starter that would work?

A replacement starter for your 2006 Golf could be found on model years 2003-2008 Golf or Jetta with the same 2.0 liter gas engine and same transmission as yours. I think original equipment was Bosch which sell new for $125 and other new ones start at $65. Salvage yards don't like to give back cash so pay with a credit card so you have some leverage if they give you junk. When there's a problem they prefer to give you another used one if they got one. I think staying away from junk parts is a good idea. Time is money.
If you’re going to replace the starter I would spend the money it cost for a good one, so that if you have any issues you can take it back. Plus once you replace it, you’ll mostly likely never have to touch it again.
Okay awesome, thanks. Just to clarify Hornet_2497, you think i should buy new rather than go to the salvage yard?
