Jetta 2.0 for 96

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Jetta won't stop leaking oil really bad and it
looks like it comes from the filter or housing for
the filter and I changed filter but it is just as bad as
before. And is this common for these models?

I don't know where the leak is coming from but the night before I lost all oil I was at the mall and noticed a thunking when I was looking for parking. Almost sounded like a busted shock? It seemed to be at the rear but only going slow but I jumped a curb a week before and bottomed out. But the oil level stayed up for a week after the curb and I made sure to check before driving it so the oil pan isn't the source cuz oil level was okay until a week later and I didn't bottom it out after the curb. I have to do repairs myself . One broke girl armed with a haynes, limited resources to do repairs and the wisdom from Y'all fine folks. I don't want to cause more problems in my attempt to fix this one. Thanks and I appreciate the insight and guidance for all my issues. 1st site I hit if a question needs a honest answer!
