If i allow the vacuum line to leak a
little, the car will run. But its the line
that leads to my brake booster, so if
it breaks completely....

Hi nice to meet you. This vaccum line have a T form unit. This vaccum line is the same for jetta, golf and sometimes is the same in the new beetle. That vaccum line affects the operation of the idle of the engine because connects directly with the intake multiport. If the line is broken don't waste more time and replace the line I guarantee you will solve your idle problem .
