I changed the plugs and wires on my 2001 vw jetta, and now it doesn't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One of the plugs was bad, so I decided to change all of them.  I also after inspecting the wires, decided to change them too.  The car was working fine before I did these repairs.  After finishing the repairs, the car doesn't start now.  At first I thought it was the battery, but I took it to autozone and charged it.  Put it in the car , and it still doesn't start.  Is there any safety thing on this model to prevent it from starting.   Thanks for your help

Does it turn over like it wants to start or nothing?. If it's not doing anything and battery is charged, check for any harness connectors that you might've accidentally disconnected. If everything looks ok, check battery cables to make sure they are clean and tight.

It cranks but doesn't start. The the only thing I touched was changing spark plugs and wires, and changing the air filter. I checked to make sure the wires are in the right place. The battery cables are fine, because it started before I did these repairs. Is there a fuse maybe I could have blown?

I checked the firing order. the wires on top are from back to front 2,4,6 and the bottom is 5,3,1.

try spraying some ether or quick start in the throttle body see it starts for a bit, if it does, it's fuel related if not, check spark on spark plugs
