I think my transmission is out :(

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I thought I was doing right when I bought my 1st  
used car. It's a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta.  I know I
should have taken a mechanic with me but I do not
know any mechanics. I have only had it for a week
and it slows down and doesn't pick up speed. Now
a funky smell came out. I tried to check if it has
transmission oil but I can't find anything. I have
gone to mechanics but they say they do not
service Volkswagen.  Can someone please advise
me????

First used car, Let give you some belated advice, do not buy used German Auto's. Always have used Auto's fluid checked or changed out, which you also check before buying.

Thank you @Tom and @enginecreater for your time and answers. I did goggle for the nearest VW mechanic but he is over 10 miles away and that is why I ask on this site to see if anyone can advise me so I can try and do something to make it to the mechanic. No lights are on, on the dashboard only the funky smell and not picking up speed. Ok, thanks once again I appreciate it. Have a great day.

Is the funky smell from exhaust if so you may have a clogged Catalytic converter.
