Radio install

Asked by Austin Oct 28, 2017 at 07:34 PM about the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Wolfsburg Edition

Question type: Car Customization

I have a double din aftermarket radio for my mk4 Jetta. The
connections from the car don't fit into the radio unit. The
radio unit has a harness that has all the labelled wires on it.
Do I get a wiring diagram of the radio wires then cut the
connectors and splice the radio hardness wires to the
matching function wires from the car? I'm just curious if the
radio will be on all the time if I do that.

Do I need to run a power wire to the fuse box like some of these videos I've seen or does the connectors from the car already have a power that won't kill my battery when it's off?

you may need an adapter with the computer interface so that chimes will work and you won't have to run a separate wire from the accessories , try a pro car stereo shop ,, I think you'll still have to match and solder connections between the stereo and the dash

Agree with Tom. www.crutchfield.com can help you out. Nobody has customer service that is better. What ever you do, DO NOT hack into the factory wire harness, get an adapter from Crutchfield.

right , but the two adapters will likely have to be hooked together , I don't think they make a one piece ready set go , adapter . they might

Yes the wires will need to be connected from the radio wiring to the adapter. The adapter will plug into the vehicle wiring harness. Soldering is the best way with heat shrink tubing as the insulators.

or for the sake of your sanity go to best buy and buy the wireing adaptor. It literaly jsut plugs into the old wiring harness and then to the after market wireing harness. it saves you one hell of a head ache.I did this with my audi it it saved me the head banging of wiresplicing plus you don't have to splice your old wireing harness out.
