I need to tow an 800lb boat/trailer withabout 600 lbs of passengers and luggage. Can a 2006 Jetta 2.5 automatic do this?

All towing information will be in the most unread book in history,called the owners manual
I certainly wouldn't do it. If you do much towing with it, you ll sacrifice a lot of brake life and transmission life. Either rent or borrow a vehicle designed for towing.
I already read the owner's manual which simply says "information not available at this time". I also asked several dealers and the manufacturer who all refuse to provide any information one way or another. It seems rather clear the manufacturer has told dealers not to provide any information on towing one way or another. Also the door sticker provides no information. My thanks to Paul. As to "garageman" - stay off the site if you don't know anything about the vehicle as sarcasm adds no value.
Sarcasm?Constructive criticism more like it want to tow a boat ? Buy a truck!if there is no information in the owners manual that should have been the first clue.I see more people ask jobs of their vehicles that they were never intended for or designed for and then wonder why they have problems with them down the road.sorry to have gotten your shorts in a bunch!
