Could also be the stop light switch mounted on the gas pedal.
It's is the brake light switch. It is a very common problem on 99-06 Volkswagens.
check with the dealership, they had a recall on the brake light switch in my beetle, same problem.
im having the same issue.if it was this sensor thenwouldnt the 3rd brake light in the back window also not work? in my case the 3rd light was working but i installed a bulb in one of the rear brake lights as it didnt have one installed and now the 3rd light doesnt light up either, any ideas?
