2001 new beetle

Asked by Christina Aug 28, 2019 at 02:45 AM about the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle GLS 1.8T

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car needs to have the flex pipe and the CO2 sensors changed and the
flex pipe. I took my car to the shop he told me he has to buy the whole
assembly and then the CO2 sensors also. It is going to cost 500 dollars to
fix. I was looking online and found just the flex pipe and then the sensors for
around 169.00 bucks. There is no need to replace the whole assembly I
think he is trying to screw me over, Does anybody have any advice or any
helpful opinions would be helpful.

The flex pipe likely does not have a place to mount the O2 sensors. The shop would likely have to cut and weld the mounts. You may save a little on parts however, labor would be more. I would call another shop for a second estimate.

LMAO you can purchase the entire system Direct Fit Catalytic converter with the flex pipe for $105 on ebay here ..... https://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-2006-Volkswagen-Jetta-1-8T-Direct-Fit-Catalytic-converter-DF54473/172792644921?hash=item283b3e8539:g:4P4AAOSw6B5ZdhUi .... Both o2 sensors for $45.99 and do the insulation yourself for a total cost of $150.99 This is not rocket science and you will need few tools .watch this video as all are similar yours has only 2 o2 sensors. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=2001+Volkswagen+Beetle+GLS+1.8T+catilic+converter+removal&&view=detail&mid=69C0CBA0FDF61A41D37669C0CBA0FDF61A41D376&rvsmid=5A6B97FA6271B928DD0E5A6B97FA6271B928DD0E&FORM=VDQVAP

This should only take a shop 1 hour to change once you get the parts and the hour rate should be no more than $85 so the total would be $235 if you have a shop do it for you. The answer is yes the shop that told you $500 is ripping you off as most do.

You can google a video of how to replace yours online
