Are owners of these having trouble finding parts?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing
I'm wanting to purchase one of these TDIs. But have been warned by a trusted
mechanic that finding parts may be difficult due to the age and limited numbers of
US import/sales. these are fantastic vehicles, no?

Parts should not be too tough. Join a Passat or TDI car forum and you will learn about all resources that are out there for these cars and the 1.9 liter turbo diesel. The Passats have some ball joint issues, but there are kits to fix that, although they can get spendy. Make sure the car's suspension and steering do not need work. Electrical issues are another known thing to watch out on these cars. Overall though, you will find a lot of owners rebuking their 'reputation' for problems, and if the car is well maintained it is an excellent car to drive and ride in -- not to mention the great fuel economy and longevity of the engine specifically.

Thank you very much! Exactly the kind of info a person needs. Anybody see any reason to pay over high blue book? I'm seeing a trend. Does sound like a fine ride. Thanks again.
If anybody is paying over book value for a Passat and it's not due to it being in extremely perfect condition, it will be only because of the TDI engine. The engine is coveted by many people for its fuel efficiency (50mpg+ hwy capable) and its durability and longevity.
