installing dipstick tube

Asked by GuruHLZQQ Jul 18, 2019 at 12:55 PM about the 2000 Volkswagen Passat GLS

Question type: General

I broke replacement tube trying to install.  I have purchased another tube. Tube
gets stuck at a certain point and won't go down further.   How can I get the tube
to go down further without breaking the tube.

There may be a broke piece of the previous tube broken off in the hole, and that keeps the new tube from seating properly. Even if you take a tool and push the broken piece into the oil pan, I doubt it would hurt anything as the oil pump has a screen on the intake. It will come out in the next oil change. These plastic tubes get brittle with heat, oil and age.
