driving my 2000vw passat a light came on oil symbol said top up what does this mean

your oil leval is low,check the oil dip stick,add oil to full mark.if you not sure,let your mechanic add for you,dont want to over fill it.have it checked ASAP.

if this is happening regularly and you dont smell oil or have blue exhaust, you prob have cam seal gasket issues. if just one-time thing, refill and/or go get oil change asap.
