How can I tell if a head gasket.there is no
White smoke from the tailpipe of my
2000 Volkswagen Passat.

well, you'd be leaking coolant...or the gasket would be leaking into the combustion chamber~....pull a sparkplug and examine for evidence of anythin' funny goin' on there~

do a compression test...the leakdown should be almost nothing~
