Hi king_2george, I also have problems getting my 2006 VW Passsat trunk lid to latch, especially when it"s cold, did you ever get any advice to fixing the problem?

On an 07 Turbo 2.0 the filter is in a canister made of composite black...you will need a 1 7/16 inch socket which is available in a 3/4" drive. It is on the left of the engine or front of engine compartment. You have to remove the plastic belly pan. 9 torx bolts.
