was going to buy a 2006 passat 3.6 147,000 miles for $3200 from a private owner but my son took it to his friend and this is the list of problems: rear pads and rotors, valve gasket, oil pan gasket, axle seals, sunroof does not open then close properly, transmission noise 1st gear, motor mounts. approx $1500 or more of repairs. is it worth buying?

In my opinion I would say no.. Even if you can do the work yourself, that is a pretty large list of significant items you would have to tackle to make her drivable. If you don't plan on doing the work yourself, consider the cost of a garage performing the work. Either way, it's going to add to the final cost and most likely a lot of your time. Just a few thoughts.
I'd avoid this car like the plague. The Seller is just trying to sell off his troublesome car in the hopes that you will buy it. Let someone else be the sucker who gets screwed over. Glad you didn't put your $$ into this deal yet!!
Just Pass on the Passat-
Mark any chance your in Az...hoping I'm not looking at theither same car
