1998 Chevy cavalier bucking
Asked by Iwin71a Aug 28, 2015 at 05:02 AM about the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Drove car 30 miles, shifted smooth, ran
great, last 10 miles the odometer would
bounce around and car couldn't decide how
to shift anymore. When car cooled down, it
acted relatively normal and drivable again.
Any directions on this please?

No idea on the odometer bouncing around... That's the think that keeps track of the mile on the motor itself... Unless it's a digital display that shouldn't be a problem... But I don't know what I'm looking at... Under the assumption its an automatic, and be ready for a mess unless you have some kind of idea what your getting into... Drain automatic fluid... Remove pan and there should be a plastic part in it (Google transmission filter replacement for your year make and model... I promise someone's worked on it before).. That is your transmissions filter... Take it to your local autoparts store and get an new one along with the specified oem amount of trans fluid.. Should run smooth as silk for another 7-10 thousand miles assuming your not a hot roder. Reguardless a rebuild is eminent in your future
Sorry...meant speedometer bounces as the car bucks... Will change filter and fluid as a start... Thanks!
