Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have just purchased a 1997 mazda miata and i gotta be honest i had
never seen a automatic transmission before in a miata and i did some
research on it and could not find anything about that transmission. all i see
is all manual transmission info (Is it RARE or something or is it that bad?) in
the near future i would like to upgrade it probably start with bagging it and
as well as new wheels and maybe building a turbo motor but what i really
would like to know is more info on the trans???

I would try Miata forums but I doubt you will get a definitive answer. If you hop it up you should install a heavy duty transmission cooler.

My 07, had the tiptronic transmission. I always drove it using the manual feature. I had absolutely no problems with it and found it to be very reliable under all situations that it encountered. The car was put on a dyno machine and tuned accordingly, a cold air intake was added, giving the car 27 more horsepower. Needless to say, it worked well.
