my car stopped driving but it will start on a dime you can move the gears but won't move

could be the shift linkage has come off or the cable broke. or you may have a internal transmission issue. have you checked the transmisson fluid level?
I did and the fluid is fine no leakage thank you for your prompt answer I will have that looked at and see if thats the provlem if so will this be an expensive fix?
If its a problem with the cable it shouldnt be too expensive but then again ive never priced or had to replace one. if its a transmission issue it can get real expensive in a hurry.

My 2000 Chevy Cavalier did the same thing. The battery light came on and car started but would not move. Mechanic put in new fuel pump it worked for about 6 weeks and did the same thing. The battery light still comes on but will not start now. Mechanic says wiring. Any suggestions?
