98 Cavalier Overheating

Asked by SparkyMike36 Aug 22, 2018 at 10:38 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier with a 2.2L. Car runs a
little hot when idling, about 202 degrees. I can stay
constant like this for hours and be fine. As soon as I
drive it, it the temp shoots up to the red. I’ve
replaced the water pump, and radiator cap. I know
the fan is operating.

It sounds like your just a tad low on coolant, it doesnt take much. Top it up and watch for any leaks even small ones. Getting hot under acceleration is usually caused by the cylinder head not being completely full of coolant
