Freshly charged battery but won't turn over

Asked by kirknkona Aug 25, 2014 at 04:34 PM about the 2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I ran the battery down by accidently leaving the key on. It was too dead to start with a
jump so I charged it for 24 hours. Battery looks strong now (headlights and power
windows work well) but nothing happens when I try to turn it over. It acts as though I
haven't engaged the clutch... i.e. no clicking. No nothing. Like I said, battery seems
strong but the battery light stays on after the rest of the lights go out as I release brake
and buckle up. PS. Everything worked fine before I drained the battery. Does
something need to be reset?

Did you put the charger on with the battery in the car? If so, that could be the issue. Check your fuse boxes carefully. If there are no blown fuses, you have an issue that may have to be looked at by a competent specialist.

I think it could still need a new battery they are small and only last a few years. I would also check the main fuse ( fusable link ).
